Deep in the mountains of Clay, WV God is preparing a church to have an impact. Bro. Dave saw almost triple the regular attendance each night in adult services. Sunday night there were twenty-three in the Children’s Revival Hour and by Wednesday they increased to over sixty. Ten children professed Christ as Savior. God is good.
Most of these children were “bus kids”. They live in shacks in the mountains, trailers on the hill-side, and trash heaps called homes in the city. Yet, these children can and have come up through this simple bus/van ministry and attend Bible college. While many are building their churches through schemes I’m SO THANKFUL for the ones who suffer the little children, because so many children suffer.
In my limited travels with Neighborhood Bible Time and the Dave Young Evangelistic Association my heart has been broken over the conditions of children in America. Not just because they come from broken homes, have abusive parents, lose their innocence before age 12, are neglected, unloved, and never nurtured, but because the churches are allowing it to happen. Children need the gospel just as bad as adults! And they can be saved!
Jesus said, “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” Bro. Dave explained that although the Independent Fundamental Baptist movement is not the biggest like it was in the 70’s and 80’s, we still have influence and survive because we decided “we’ll take the children.”
Yet, More and more churches no longer sacrifice to see children saved. Many don’t even agree that they can be saved. Or, if they are saved, then it will just hurt them later on because they will fall into sin and never “repent” properly.
I believe we underestimate the power of the gospel when we choose to believe that children cannot be saved.
I believe we deny the Holy Spirit’s existence when we don’t have faith that Vacation Bible School, Neighborhood Bible Time, and other gospel events will accomplish much.
We deny Jesus words, “inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” when investing and sacrificing in children is overlooked because it “doesn’t provide enough fruit.”
My mother was a “bus kid.” My father’s mother was a “bus kid.” If not for the church investing in “expendable” dirty, uncultured, untrained children I would not be where I am today. They are precious in His sight.
We must reach adults. We must reach teens. The children though, are the ones who are most tender. To all of the Sunday School teachers, bus workers, children’s ministers, etc… God bless you! May we all be burdened to Suffer the little children, because if we don’t, the little children will suffer… for eternity.
